Every child deserves a chance to dream, play, learn, and succeed —
from the village pitch to the world's stage.
Our Story
Football Mtaani is a grassroots social impact movement born in the heart of Kenya's villages and informal settlements. "Mtaani" — Swahili for "in the hood" — says it plainly: this is football for the community, by the community.
We believe talent doesn't wait for the right postcode. It plays barefoot in the dust, between makeshift goalposts, under the equatorial sun. Our job is to find it, nurture it, and give it a future.
At the core of everything we do is an Education First philosophy. Football opens the door — education keeps it open. No Education, No Future.
Alfred Gitau Mwaura
Founder & Director
"Every child deserves a chance to dream, play, learn, and succeed. Football Mtaani is that chance — built from the ground up, for the people who need it most."
Community Impact
Football is the vehicle. The destination is stronger communities, safer streets, and young people who lead.
Scholarships
Academic scholarships for identified talent, ensuring the classroom and the pitch advance together. Nutrition support and football kits complete the package.
Talent Scouting
We go where the talent is — villages, informal settlements, community pitches — and create real pathways to professional football for exceptional young players.
Peace Matches
Football as diplomacy. Our organised peace matches unite rival communities, reduce tension, and build the social trust that keeps neighbourhoods safe.
Anti-Drug Campaigns
Active programmes that steer young people away from substance abuse — giving them something worth showing up for every morning.
Environmental Clean-ups
Our players and coaches take ownership of their environment — organising clean-ups that instil civic pride and a sense of responsibility to the community.
Leadership Forums
Beyond football, we develop leaders. Youth forums cultivate voice, confidence, and the skills to navigate life — on and off the pitch.
Core Values
Six values that define every coach, every player, every community member who carries the Football Mtaani badge. This is not a slogan — it's a commitment.
Discipline
Show up. Work hard. Honour your commitments on the pitch and in the classroom.
Respect
For teammates, opponents, coaches, teachers, and the communities we serve.
Education
No Education, No Future. The classroom is non-negotiable — football follows, not the other way around.
Accountability
Own your actions, your results, and your role in the team and the community.
Mentorship
Every senior player lifts a junior one. Experience flows down; ambition flows up.
Service
Give back to the community that gave you a pitch to play on and a people to play for.
Academy Structure
Our proposed community academy meets young players where they are — at 9, at 15, at 19 — and walks with them to the senior level and beyond. Age-appropriate coaching, structured development, and a clear pathway upward.
The long-term vision: a Football Mtaani academy in all 47 counties of Kenya, creating an unbroken chain from grassroots to professional football.
No Education.
No Future.
Get Involved
Whether you're a player, a parent, a coach, a sponsor, or simply someone who believes in young people — Football Mtaani has a place for you. Reach out. Show up. Make a difference.
